The Massachusetts BayTransportation Authority is America’s first subway system, serving millions of daily bus, train, and ferry riders. Commuters don’t always plan ahead, or use a smartphone during their travels. The MBTA’s digital signage system brings them live transit information at the point of service, where and when it matters most.

I cofounded the Digital Signage program to unify the logic and presentation of live service updates. I developed a flexible design system that scales to a growing ecosystem of existing and future display technologies. It accounts for accessibility, unpredictable service conditions, and safety-critical disruptions.

I also designed the backend system for operations personnel to monitor and configure targeted alerts across the Boston region.

Columbus Avenue’s new shelters were a finalist for the Best Bus Stop in America, partly because of up to the minute arrival, crowding, and service information.
